The Lizard-Brain Addiction Monster

Ink and acrylics painting on paper. A3 (approximately).

This is an acrylic painting that I did a few years ago on the theme of alcohol addiction. What I wanted to do was to produce an image that said something about that was a visual metaphor for that primal, lizard-brain driven aspect aspect of addiction... something more Darwinian, perhaps? ...and without the needless religious element of the usual cliched "demon whispering in a person's ear" thing.

Here's an interesting piece of trivia: I actually don't own the original anymore; it's hanging on my friend Claudia Christian's wall in her home in Los Angeles (yup... that's right - Commander Susan Ivanova from Babylon 5 owns pieces of my art - haha! how's that for a claim to fame?!?).

Finished piece: "The Lizard-Brain Addiction Monster". Acrylics on A3 paper.

WIP 2: ...Me whacking some colour down. As you may notice, I'm working on top of an orangey-reddish undercolour... which is how I normally work - a practice I've actually adopted for my recent efforts with Photoshop (see my Judge Dredd homage)
